‘10 years away’: Military experts’ chilling killer bots warning as World Humanoid Robots Games end

1 September, 2026

Dr Ian Langford spoke to Adrian Zorzut about the rapid advances in China’s robotics and automation capabilities and their potential military applications.

“What we’re seeing in terms of the advances that are being made rapidly from last year’s robotic Olympics to this year’s, in terms of those bipedal systems and their ability to move quickly and to be agile and to mimic human movement, [is that] their application on the battlefield of today is becoming closer and closer.”

He warned that humanoid and autonomous systems are becoming an increasingly real part of the calculus in designing future military forces, with profound implications for the conduct and escalation of future conflict.
