Security & Defence PLuS Executive Director, Dr Ian Langford, joined Sky News Australia following Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy’s address on reforming Australia’s defence acquisition system.
On acquisition reform, Langford argued that: “for too long defence has been focused on the requirements and the submission-setting phase of the equipment delivery cycle, and there hasn’t been enough focus on delivery and outcomes.”
On AUKUS, he emphasised that “the issue of social licence and public support for AUKUS is as fundamental as the delivery of the submarines themselves.” With “30-plus years of delivery” ahead, maintaining public confidence and accelerating capability outcomes will be critical to Australia’s future defence and deterrence.
