US and Israel ‘control’ Iranian skies after ‘utterly destroying and disabling’ defence systems

3 March, 2026

Dr Ian Langford spoke with Sky News Australia host Steve Price about the impact of recent US and Israeli strikes on Iran’s military infrastructure.

“It’s probably fair to say that Iranian air defence systems have been utterly destroyed and their integrated air and missile defence system is no longer functional.”

He assessed that “most of their command and control system has been temporarily if not permanently disabled”, including strikes against key leadership and military command centres. As a result, “we’re seeing really the US and Israeli air power systems consolidate control across the skies of Iran.”

Langford also said that absolute regime change requires “an alternate security provider on the ground.” In the current context, he argued, “this will have to come from within… This will need to be an Iranian-led opposition movement.”
